charges

I obtained a discount from Swinton after using a comparison website quote to negotiate a better deal. I have since had to cancel the insurance and they want to charge me for the discount they gave me. Can I do anything?

I dont understand what you mean, charging you for the discount.

They would charge you a cancellation fee and possibly also an admin fee.

Look at the terms and conditions...

Swintons do cash back or rebate some of their commission to make the premium more attractive.

Send a polite and concise letter headed "Official Complaint" which they are duty bound to properly investigate and report back to you within eight weeks (They can't chase you for the money while dealing with the complaint).

There's a reasonble chance they will right the charges off

When a commission rebate is given, it is on the basis of the whole years premium being paid. If you cancel early then the whole premium will not be paid and the commission (which could range from sole or all to it) will be clawed back.

it is normal for contracts to have a clause in the respect of commission clawbacks.
