Regret over vacuum cleaner purchase

I found when I first had our Gtech, it filled up really quickly and spat crud back on the carpets, but after a while that stopped. I think it was because the Dyson wasn't picking up as much crud as the Gtech did, and now the house is cleaner only the new dust gets picked up.
We've still got our old Dyson, OH uses it for cleaning the car although we have a Gtech car kit somewhere.
I'm not so keen on our handheld Gtech as you have to hold the on button on to keep it working, I think they've changed later models to a proper switch though.
Which accessories do you miss as I can't see many situations I can't use my Gtechs for.
Edit, forgot to add, we have a cat although she's not a huge fur shedder
I miss the long hose on the Dyson. The GTECH multi I've got, you don't have to keep your finger on the button so that's OK, but the hose doesn't reach right up to the ceiling and its not as powerful as the Dyson. The main GTECH is fine on the floors but there are no attachments on it.0 -
. So what do I do now? The Dyson I had is now full price in John Lewis and I feel loathed to pay out the money, but my flat just doesn't feel as clean. I can hardly go back to the person who bought my Dyson from Ebay and ask if he wants to do a swap. Shall I just bite the bullet and pay the money?
I'm thinking john lewis is quite expensive, have you tried looking on AO.com? I bought my dyson from there and have always been pleased with their prices and delivery options0 -

Have you got the extended pipe which is an accessory? Unless you've got really high ceilings or short arms, this might work for you if you don't have it?

I have the Gtech handheld but the older model where you have to keep the finger on the button. I've just checked if I can reach my ceiling and I can with the extension pole attached. I don't think the handhelds originally came with the extra hose but I got mine as a special offer freebie at the time.
I love the handheld for my stairs and rugs and don't know how I managed without them.0 -
I've got the G-Tech vacuum and hand held and I love them. The 'suck' on the main cleaner is fab and the washable filters and being bagless saves money too.
I use the handheld G-Tech for the car and hard to reach areas but the 'suck' is not as powerful as I'd like.
Before that I had a Dyson Animal upright and a Dyson handheld which I hated - I've got arthritis and I just didn't have the strength to keep squeezing the button on the handheld. No squeezing - no power - so no good!
I've also got a Henry which I've had for years and use this for the stairs and reaching up. Thousands of professional cleaning companies can't be wrong.
I would recommend the sucking power and convenience of the upright G-Tech to anyone as it is just as efficient as any cleaner I've had before.
OP - is it just the reach that is the real issue for you? I'd recommend keeping the G-Tech upright and getting a Henry to supplement it. Henry is much cheaper than a Dyson, robust (survived many drops downstairs for me) and has a good range of tools.
You could then sell the G-Tech on FleaBay to recoup some funds.:hello:0 -
Hi, I've got the extension for the multi and it does reach but not as much as the Dyson did and the suction isn't great. I wish I'd have held onto my Dyson for the attachments alone and ordered the GTECH main vac for quick touch ups.
I have had an Henry before and though it was powerful I couldn't get on with it, the hose kept falling apart and I found it difficult to store.0 -
Ive got the cordless dyson animal, i have 3 cats and i just love this vac, its lightweight, vacs so easily, really quick to empty, and even betetr will vac the bed without sucking the quilt cover up too. Like other posters have said, one the initial crud has been vacced up in the first couple of vacs, i find it easy enough and not inconvenient to empty the dust box. love love love this vac. Lol that sounds so sad, lmao!!"It is not uncommon for slight acquaintances to get married, but a couple really have to know each other to get divorced." - Anonymous0

Update. I am sticking with the GTECH. I went and ordered the Dyson from Argos, it came on Monday but I just couldn't cope with the cord, I took it out of the box and knew it would be a faff so I packed it away and returned it.
I now have hard floors in all my rooms apart from my bedroom (this was done on Thursday, less messy with having the cats) and the GTECH works fine on all floors. I am persevering with the hand held and its not as bad as I first thought, its sucking up what I want. I think I just got carried away with the thought of the Dyson again but no way now could I cope with a corded hoover.0
