    When the label just says "red potatoes" they do tend to be nastier and waxy as a rule of thumb.

    Whites tend to be fluffier.

    I do wish they'd go back to putting proper names on them, rather than just white/red as that's not very helpful.

    When I was a child, (decades ago), we had Reds for roasting, Whites for mash, new potatoes in season and delicious, gorgeous Jersey Royals for only about 1 month a year. When sweet potatoes came along they were viewed with great suspicion:)
