Thinking of taking the wife to one of these Cities, not sure which.
Did New York for her 50th last April,i thought it was brilliant, her not over keen on it.
What are the pros and cons for either City. We hammered the subway in NY,but don't mind walking. Shopping malls to get a bargain or 2,the odd train trip to somewhere different, then a few scoops and a nice meal at the end of the day.
Whar are people's recommendations?

In terms of variety and choice, yes, definitely.
In terms of moneysaving, at $1.30 to the £ borderline (if at all).
p.s. my credit card was recently abused in various Californian & Washington malls

Personal opinion? Boston much better than Chicago. Much more walkable, and you get some history thrown in for free:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Boston (I loved it though I haven't been to Chicago to compare).:T0

Boston, and you've got another nice place in Albany about 2.5 hours on a coach/train or less if your driving.0

Boston, but go in the fall. The colours are amazing!0

Boston from me too. Lovely place, loads to do, we combined it with a visit to New York too, on a coach. City life and beaches, the people are friendly and they have a good cheap underground service as well, so it's easy to get around.0

Boston is great. Having said that, I remember really liking Chicago, but that was back in 1986 so the details are a bit blurred.
If outings by train are important to you, then Boston is on the main line between Montreal and Washington, while Chicago probably gets one train a week (and while they go to interesting places they take days and days to get there).
I still think you should take her to Cuba instead: all the aspects of Boston that are great are present even more vividly in Santiago.0
