Freeview play on new Samsung TVs

I've noticed you don't get freeview play EPG on some new Samsung TVs, is it really a "must have " feature ?

Yes, you do get an EPG, just not a freeview play one.

As long as it covers all the channels you can receive I'm not sure what the difference is

Play allows you to view some programmes that have already been broadcast. I have it on one of my TVs but I've only used it once in almost a year.

We have it on our Panasonic tv and do use it occasionally but it makes the EPG very slow to load up even when you just want to see what is live on other channels as it is loading up a lot more than a none Freeview Play tv.

It also only covers a few channels (although I think more are being included) and only goes back 7 days.

The slow loading of the EPG is a frustrating downside for me and I would gladly forgo Freeview Play for an instant EPG.

Ah Tivo has something similar, never used it.

Freeview play is a complete waste of time and resources. Seems like a panic development to compete with Youview, going back via EPG is a rarely used option when all the catchup services are there anyway....

IMHO youview is also a waste of time yes record whilst out , but when you come home do you want to sit where the youview box is . i prefer to watch in another room. or on a phone/tablet or when i go out again on my lappy/tablet etc.
