Restaurants charging extra for sauces to go with steak

Some of them charge a lot for a pepper corn sauce or similar, would you take your own with you and get it out from your pocket at the table?

Wouldn't they charge 'sauceage' if you did that?
Separating the prices for meat and sauce makes it easier for them to offer various combinations of meat (at different prices for fillet or sirloin etc) and sauce (at different prices for peppercorn, whisky, or truffle etc) without having a hugely long menu or price look-up on the till.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Restaurants don't charge for basic table sauces but anything that takes a bit of effort eg warming up a peppercorn sauce I think justifies a small charge.0

Come to think of it: bring a raw steak along as well.
Dont forget to pick up your chips from the chippie on the way as well.0 -
If a price, or offering, offends you, simply vote with your feet.
I'm sure there are plenty of places with a simpler pricing structure if that's how you prefer it.
Avoid those places that do the unexpected.
Whether I'd be miffed or not would depend on how much extra they wanted and how much extra they were charging for other variations. If it looked fair to me I'd not mind. I'd mind if it was disproportionately high compared to what the main item was.0 -
To be completely MSE just order the sauce and no steak. Much cheaper.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0

As I don't particularly like those type of sauces that go with steaks, that would be better for me as it would mean I wouldn't be paying for a sauce I didn't want. If they don't charge separately, its going to be factored into the price anyway so you are still paying either way. If they charge separately, it just means they are telling you how much extra it will be.0
