No internet contact on my iPhone

Going on to internet sites suddenly became impossible on my iPhone. I'm up to date with my payments, have plenty of MB left of my tariff, so what is the problem? Messages I get are 'Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server' and 'There is a problem with the network connection'. Happens both out of the house and next to my router at home. Is it the fault of O2, Safari or within my phone? It can't be the internet sites as I can't get on to any? TIA

O2 Live Chat has been excellent when previously used but it's just taking ages with no response.
