Old Style Daily Sunday 28th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Good morning everyone :hello:

I'm just up grabbing a bit of peace and quiet before hubby and the girls descend looking for breakfast.

Our neighbours at the back had a party last night and when I got up an hour ago it was still going . Fortunately I sleep at the front of the house so I didn't hear a thing but the poor next door neighbours to them.

I had a bit of a baking day yesterday and made a huge load of pastry with which I then made a blackberry and apple pie and a load of corned beef pasties. There was still loads of pastry left so I have chucked it in the freezer for now. The pasties were yum and the pie is for 'afters' today. I then went on to make chicken fajitas for tea but I was very tired after that.

The countdown to back to school has begun. I was watching the tv with DD13 and of course all the back to school adverts came on. She got a bit weepy and said she was worrying about the first day back as she wasn't sure where she had to go. I reminded her that she had this issue last year and it all worked out. If in doubt she will go to reception but secretly I am very worried for her that she will be bullied again. It has been an ongoing problem for her since year 5 and now she is in year 9. It's enough to make you weep. She is a brilliant, kind, nerdy, geeky girl who will do anything to help you but she is a bit chubby, cries easily, hates makeup and doesn't care about fashion and this makes her a target. I've talked to the school but DD13 doesn't want me to get involved with them any more. She does her best not to show the bullies that it bothers her but it obviously does. I just want to keep her safe.

I want to offer a warm welcome to our new lady Topsymum who posted last night. Hope you stick around xx

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
• Morning all

Thanks for the thread Dumpling, welcome Topsy Mum.

My L&M has a cuppa in bed, the dog has had her morning constitutional and the fish have been fed.

Our back lawn looks funny as we had a sudden torrential downpour yesterday as my L&M was mowing it, so most of it is short with a patch of long grass still left.

It was noisy here yesterday as we could hear the festival music quite loud, it didn't keep us awake though as we take our hearing aids out at bedtime and go blissfully deaf.

I shall take more photos for Ebay today as I have 5 lots finishing and if everybody pays up I shall be £75 better off.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning All

I was woken up by folk shouting in the road at 5.30 and couldn't get back to sleep, it was raining hard too so that didn't help.

Planted my raised bed at the gardens yesterday, the remainder have gone in the garden here, probably too late for anything to grow properly but I'll give it a go. Yesterday afternoon was lovely, went for a bike ride with friends to see the Scottish Open Water swim. Also paid next door neighbour a visit - he has a horse box that is converted into a coffee stall that he takes to events, pleased to see that he was doing a roaring trade.

Not sure what I'm doing today, probably go for a swim and see how the day goes, hopefully the weather will improve.

Welcome to Topsymum.
dumpling - I think you should make the school aware of any issues, your DD doesn't need to know.
Glad you enjoyed your holiday RR, sounds fab.

Enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX
• Morning folks. We got back from our week on the Isle of Wight last night after a near on 12 hour journey! The coach left the hotel at 7.20 a.m. for the 8.45 ferry and we finally fell in the door at 7.00 p.m.

Had a gorgeous week but could have done with two! The hotel lovely with excellent food and our bedroom enormous with long balcony overlooking the beach and sea. Perfect! Too hot for much sightseeing but did visit Cowes, Godshill, Sandown and Osborne House on a couple of days out. Met up with DD and the girls twice for days on Shanklin beach. The whole tribe of her friends and kids came too so we took up quite a section of beach between the 30 of us!! It was so hot I was tempted into the sea each time and it was bliss swimming in the cooling water. At 70 I thought my days of swimming in the sea were behind me, but I proved there is life in the old dog yet! DD is still down there after nearly three weeks. They come back Tuesday and already the gang are arranging to meet up again next August for the same weeks.

I emptied the bags and cases last night and there the job stopped! Piles of washing all over the kitchen floor ready to go in the wm but we seem to have left the sun behind us so it won't get pegged out just yet. Tomorrow has a better forecast.

A much needed shopping trip on the cards for today too. The fridge is bare so need to stock up on dairy, fruit and veg desperately. Usual reserves in the freezer and cupboards so we won't starve in the meantime! In any case we have expanded so much this week a day of starving might not be a bad thing!

Hope you and yours are all well and I will catch up on the past week's Daily's when a few spare minutes. Meanwhile, (((HUGS))) to all in need. Take care and have a good day xx

Hi all,

I have a minor complaint - which one of you that have just left the Isle of Wight have taken the Sun, I know you wouldn't have done it on purpose, but please check your bags and return it ASAP:D

Dumpling - I agree, you need to raise it with the school, as much for your piece of mind as for your daughters safety - try not to let it cloud your last few days of school 'freedom' X

Hubby is cooking today, he is the curry King, so an Indian feast is due, and I have made Pavlova, as it was DD's BF's birthday on Friday, and it's his favourite pud :j

Off to look for that sun now ......:rotfl:

Morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread Dumpling. How proud you must be of DD13, I would expect she'll tell you if things escalate.

TA - welcome back, your holiday sounds excellent. I've never been to IoW but between you and JackieO I'm tempted.

Camelot - my visiting friend swam the event for the coast two years, this year she's had an op on a knee recently do can't do it.

We had a lovely day yesterday. Drove right down the Kintyre peninsula to Campbeltown and the beautiful Mull of Kintyre. The views over to the other side of Jura were brilliant, there were grey seals basking on rocks and sands, herons standing around in the shallows and shags on rocks just hanging about. We had walks and coffee and chips.

Last night we succumbed to more pizza with wine and the X Factor. I usually manage to avoid the show and probably won't watch it again, just not my style of entertainment.

The weather is forecast to be lovely again so no doubt we'll be out and about again today though as yet I have no idea where.

Welcome to Topysmum.

Happy Sunday everyone.
• ISLANDMAID - not guilty! Drab and drizzly here! In fact DD has already texted me to ask if we brought the sun back with us! x

Good morning all and welcome to TopsyMum.

The sun is shining and as ever I have washing for the reverse burglar to put out.

There is an event locally today and for the past couple of hours, I have heard cars and vans , hooting like mad and their drivers yelling because they can't get into the overspill car park. And in the bits between yells and hoots and honks, I have been listening to the mice having a special hobnailed boots party behind the skirting board.

DS went to spend the evening and overnight with his friend, no doubt he will wander in at some point, probably with a headache. And a massive need for a bacon sandwich. This need is usually announced by those immortal words oh my lovely mother...

That posted itself without human agency. No idea what to make for dinner.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

I'm sure I never packed it along with the sand and clothes in need of washing ,although it is nice and sunny here at the moment. I have a line of washing to go out this morning as I didn't finish unpacking until last night, as I had to drive to Norwich and back yesterday.I'll just get that lot sorted then I shall be getting ready to toddle off to north-east Scotland for a family reunion in mid-September .Still got the few bits of fresh stuff I needed and fingers crossed I shan't be going food shopping much this month .Well not until the last week of September at least.

DD is dog-hunting today as her little dog Lexi is missing having a pal to play with. She will go with a rescue dog again as she likes to try to rehome an unwanted dog if she can.

I'm generally pottering around this morning ,recuperating from all the travelling of the past day or so.Lots of dusty housework to catch up on and tidying up.

Pleased you enjoyed the Island T/A it really is a fantastic place for a relaxing holiday.Glad I'm not there this weekend though as there is a huge scooter convention on.We always go the last two weeks every year and come home just as the scooter lads and lasses start turning up.
We shall start looking for our next years house rental next week as the larger houses get booked up so quickly. We need a house with four bedrooms that takes dogs and has parking for two cars and has wi-fi :):) we usually find one by the end of September and get it booked, then its back to normality and budgeting and saving again .

Hope every one has a good bank holiday and enjoys what ever they are doing

JackieO xx

Morning :hello:

Hello TopsyMum

Had a fab day yesterday, Scampi listened to everything I said – though he usually does when we're in the house on our own, he knows exactly what I mean when I speak to him. He panicked for a sec at the first clap of thunder, it was quite boomy and took him by surprise. He jumped up then howled at it :D Then he ran to the back window, stood up on his back legs on the sofa, watched the rain and did cute head tilts when he heard more thunder :D Mr tru behaved when he got in from work, every time he went to tell Scampi what to do, I gave him my DFWM face and he managed to remember the right words. Not sure how long it'll last, but if there's more chaos I'll just give him another lecture and shove the word list into his hand. There's no excuse, that list has been stuck on the fridge for months!

I have lovely soft feet, though I struggled to reach to file the toenails on my right foot, my hip still won't allow it :D My book is a bit boring, I'll read one more chapter and if I'm not gripped by then I'll give up and start another.

Short visits to the front garden are pointless at the moment, the wet weather means that no-one is walking past for us to practice on. The house is nice and tidy, just need to sweep the floors and dust the lounge. My jumper, which I started crocheting months ago and is only about a third done, has been sat in a basket and is quite dusty :D I'm going to get it out today and do a few more rows. I'm making it from the bottom up, I'm nearly at the stage where I need to do the sleeves. I want to do it continuously rather than do the body and add sleeves after, and I have no idea how to do that, lol. I'll be googling for suggestions/patterns later.
