I blame the recent Parking Eye infestation of their stores. Karma.

For the Asda shareholders they need to make some excuse so chose Aldi and Lidl as their failure.
Who cares if Asda goes bust, whilst they continue to employ the PE vermin in their car parks, what elso do they expect0 -
It is probably a minor factor, but I suspect that most of it is cause Lidl and Audi have become so much better - and cheaper.
If good British rib eye steak is £19 a kilo in Lidl and £25 a kilo in Tesco I will I shop at Lidl, no matter who infests the car park.
Every little helps. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

That minor factor could mean profit or loss for them.0 -

Our local Asda monstrous store is scruffy, dirty, depressing and has staff that are about as useful as a bad tempered ferret.
Not been there for years, PPC controlled parking, yet next door a flagship John Lewis with no PPC and no parking problems.
Asda, or should it be Walmart, you deserve all you get!0 -

I know the one you mean (near J4 of the M40) and I refuse to take Mrs B there because it is so depressing. It used to have CP Plus but now Not-so-Smart in the car park, I believe.
Not far away is a large Tesco with no PPC in the car park and no problems, or the new Sainsbury's in the town centre with barrier controlled entry and exit (free if you spend £15), or the refurbished Morrisons with Euro Car Parks but a 3 hour limit.
Or, for those wishing to avoid the plebs, there is a shiny new Waitrose with PPC-free parking at the top of the hill.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
Our local Asda does not have a parking problem, is always busy and does not have a PPC. However there is parking aplenty in the nearby streets for the other shops so that's probably got a bit to do with it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I don't have a local one, so rarely go to Asda; when I do, I feel it's like going back to the 70s.0

You are obviously correct as we have never heard of either Aldi or Lidl employing PPCs.0 -
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
