Vauxhall Corsa- intolerable beeping!

Good evening all. My mum has got a 57 plate Corsa, and for some unkown reason it has started beeping constantly. The kind of beep it does if your door isnt shut properly, or you havent got your seatbelt on.

It does this for the first few minutes when she starts it up, and then stops. It will then go off again for a minute or 2 everytime she stops at a traffic light or anything. Its incredibly irritating.

Does anyone know why it has suddenly started to do this, and if there is an easy way to make it stop? She doesnt really fancy having to pay someone to come out over the bank holiday weekend, so just wondered if it was a common thing with an easy fix

Thanks in advance.

Check that there is nothing trapped in the boot lock or rim of the boot, preventing it shutting fully, same with the passenger door, and ensure that there is nothing on the passenger seat.

Can't remember, but does it have little red DOOR OPEN and SEATBELT lights on the dash, check which one is on when it makes the noise.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • It does say 'Open' on the dash- ive just checked though and all the doors and boot are closed.

Strange though that it will stop once she has been driving for a few minutes, but will beep again as soon as she stops.

    Thanks for your reply :)

    Bonnet?

The number of people I see driving about with the bonnet popped is just crazy.

There's a microswitch in each of the various latches - one of those'll be playing up.
  • Not the bonnet- but it was worth a try!

Adrian- Would you know of any way for me to check this out? We've got a long drive tomorrow, and it will send me over the edge. Im not sure which is worse... the beeping or my mum moaning about it ha ha!

I think but could be wrong, the corsa have the little push in plunger type sensors with the concertina water seal on each panel inside the door panel. You can try 1 at a time taking them out and shorting the connectors to close the circuit see if lights go out and beeping stops.

That is assuming the switch makes the connection on closing it could just as easily break the connection in which case you would have to disconnect a connection to test.

^^ There's also the possible issue of worn/broken wires at the hinge area of the doors (usually the most used door).

  • There`s also the possibility you pulled out at 20mph in front of Strider and he is the source of the beeping ;):D

Would the beeper be on a single fuse not connected to any other electricals which could be removed until she comes back???
