Background Check/CV

Thank you. I'm thinking about calling them on Tuesday just to explain that there is an error on my cv, in the hopes that this might be seen in my favour for my honesty. I just wish I knew whether they were going to check my CV after the screening company finishes their work! For all I know, they might say everything checks out and is fine, in which case I wouldn't even need to worry!0

Personally, I would stay quiet....if they ask about it later, just say it's an honest mistake on your CV, a typo. Also, don't resign until you get past this employment screening check, that way, you still have a job if they say anything.
Sometimes being too honest can be worse for you than simply saying nothing.0 -
If I stay quiet and they question it, I can always just say "as it was 2 years ago, I forgot that it was a 2-month period as opposed to a few weeks." I've passed all of my other checks so hopefully they'll see that I'm the right person for the job. Such a conundrum!0

But I definitely won't give in my notice until this is all sorted. I can't risk being without a job0

Yes, if that happens then that is all you can say! I think you need specific advice from somebody in the banking field. My limited understanding is that they check this sort of thing very carefully.0 -
If anybody who works in banking has seen this thread, can you please offer your advice??0
-
It's not just anybody in banking who can provide the answer though, it either needs to be somebody who has seen a similar situation, or somebody who works in banking HR. When I recruited new team members I never got to see the security checks, I saw the CV and might have asked about a gap in employment, but I wouldn't have know if there was a discrepancy between the CV and the security form. Only HR would be able to make that connection.0

Thank you for that answer. So you're saying that the HR department in my new employer would receive the report from the screening company, put it together with my cv and then notice a slight difference and contact me to discuss this?0
-
My hiring manager has already been in contact with me to confirm that I passed all of my criminal/finance checks but she didn't mention that I still have to pass the employment ones. I received an email from the screening company half an hour later to confirm this, so I think they'll finish their report soon and then send it through to HR. I just dont know whether HR will use this report to compare it with my original CV.0

If you can help it, dont even tell colleagues till you have had an offer and accepted. It WILL get out somehow, work without gossip doesn't really exist.0
