Whether this is a surgery or local Clinical Commissioning Group decision I don't know. Possibly the latter?
Hopefully it'll start to catch on in other places
My grandparents don't have to pay for prescriptions they both get paracetamol and ibuprofen in their monthly prescriptions and most of the time they give them away annoys the hell out of meFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
I think sooner or later a government at some point will put in place a small charge of £5 or £10 to see a doctor, like they have done with plastic bags, Just enough to make you think if you really do need to go.
No government would ever dare to do this. It's against everything the NHS stands for and would be electoral suicide.0 -

So how would you explain this?

Have you posted the wrong link? I can't see anything that says the government are proposing that everyone who visits a GP will be charged?0 -

I mentioned that they should have been told to go away, especially as those needing vaccination are not ill and the prescription requesters have lots of options, including have the chemist order and deliver to their home, but the nurse I was chatting with said it would be difficult to implement.
I don't see why, as sick people would not be turned away.0 -
Love the way some hospital out patient departments put up signs stating xx appointments missed last month - it does not make those who can be bothered to turn feel guilty ... just makes those who do actually attend unhappy at how long they have had to wait for an appointment.
When physio could not fit me in as often as orthopedics wanted it was galling to see they were averaging 50 - 60 failed appointments a month.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -

Another wheeze is them getting their dentist to issue prescriptions for fluoride toothpaste to get that free too! Far too many loopholes - doctors and dentists need to be challenged for issuing prescriptions for stuff easily bought.0 -

I don't see why either.
Patient walks in, announces s/he's come for vaccination/repeat prescription, doctor says sorry can't do it on walk in basis, gets up and asks patient to leave, calls for next one.
It would be awkward the first few times but word would quickly get round.0 -
The introduction of a token 10 or 20 pence for perscriptions for everybody who currently pays nothing would also raise a huge amount to spend elsewhere in the NHS
would probably need to be much more than that to pay for the admin costs.
charging everyone who has diabetes, rather than them having free scripts would help
and yes, dont issue any for off the shelf painkillers that can cost as little as 1p to2p a tablet0 -

No, its a wider comment on proposals to cut services that would also, if your conclusion is extended, be "electoral suicide". I just wondered what you though of it, and if you're happy with this then I can't see why a GP charge would be considered any worse.0
