Basic question

My engine light is on, my car has reduced power, it's a 2.0 diesel but feels and drives like a 1.4

Apart from that it's all good, it drives well.

Had it looked at many times and spend money on it to get the issue repaired and it's still the same...all the garage says is bring it back so we can try this that and other...

I do a lot of miles and car is serviced 4 times a year.

I gave up and just drive it as it is...

Will it fail the MoT for this reason though ??

Additional info:
Ford mondeo 2.0 diesel, 2010 (60)
Current mileage 197000k

It won't fail for the light being on, but if the light is on because of a problem that is a testable item (i.e. out-of-spec emissions) then that may fail.

My daughter has that on her 60 plate 2.0TD S Max - faulty EGR valve putting light on and stopping turbo running. Unplugged EGR, light stays on but car now operates as advertised. Passed 2 MOTs like it.

I'd go to somebody with the right reading kit, I had a problem where the car cut out at 3k rpm, my cheap obd2 reader didn't have any faults logged, the mechanics was the same, he gave me a number for a garage that 'had all the kit', they came round and correctly identified the fault (crank shaft position sensor) before i'd finished making them a brew!!

Whist it did cost me £70, they came to me, and I had to change a £15 sensor, rather than playing the guessing game potentially costing a lot more, so I'd definitely recommend getting somebody to see why the fault lights on with more diagnostic kit than the average garage has.

As long as it doesn't smoke it's !!!! off it'll be fine.

But time to go to a better garage.

It could be a refusal to test or they will not do the smoke test and fail it. As diesels need to be revved to their governed speed there is a possibility that it can run away - which is run uncontrollably on their engine oil until it ruins the engine.
