Why do so few drivers indicate these days?

I've been driving a long time now and have really noticed a trend for drivers not indicating, particularly over the last few years. I can't isolate an age group, gender or type/age of car. It seems to go across the board.
Has anyone else noticed this? I see indicating your intentions as defensive and I don't understand why so many people don't bother any more.
Is there anyone reading this forum who no longer indicates. If so - why? I'm just curious to understand this change in behaviour.

Been wondering this too. No-one seems to bother anymore.
Is it an American thing? No-one there ever indicates.0 -
On the other hand I never trust other drivers use of the indicator, until the manoeuvre has occurred.0

One of my biggest peeves on the road, particularly on roundabouts. I wouldn't have said it was a recent trend though.0

This is a pet hate of mine. Saw the after effects of someone being dragged on to a motorway under a wagon because someone didnt indicate.
People also seem to forget that its not just to indicate to other cars. I regularly remind people they should indicate (theres a juntion near me that people just dont indicate at, in a pedestrianised town centre. If someones indicating i stop and wait, if they arent i cross). My other pet hates are lane discipline (just watch how many people drift over white lines or cut roundabouts or cant judge a curve in the road). And giveway markings on the road as in these
If someones got their foot off the pavement you should wait to allow them to past, the amount of pedestrians i either see running to cross or having to stop half way is just annoying.0 -

I've noticed a lot more BMWs on the road these days.0 -
I've noticed a lot more BMWs on the road these days.
But this is the issue, it's not just new cars, or flash cars, any more than it's males female, young or old. On my 30 minute commute to work I see so many people simply never indicating.
One of the strangest is at T junctions, where a car will just be sat there. You have to guess by how it's placed whether it may be going left or right.
We need someone who's stopped indicating to explain why. Unless people would be embarrassed to admit they don't indicate any more.0 -
Also one of my pet hates, some people start to change lanes then indicate when you have already worked out what they are doing.0

I tried to tell my daughter she should always indicate but she says her instructor told her she doesn't need to if no-one is about! rolleyes0

It's preferable to indicating wrongly i guess. And I see a lot of people doing that these days.0
