Can I just point out that sometimes - usually from medical insurance companies - you get a letter that says "you have been awarded an amount in our latest sweepstakes" or similar, to recieve your prize just fill in the application form attached to take out your medical plan, your plan documents and award will then be forwarded to you.
Now it used to be the case that in the small print it said stuff like "no purchase necessary to recieve the award without the plan write on the application form the words "plan not wanted award only"". However a couple of years ago I got my 2nd or 3rd award and I noticed they had convieniently forgotton to mention the above in the small print.
I did what I had learned previously to do and sure enough I got my cheque a week later. The cheques have been for about 1.67 GBP. So it has been worth doing IMHO.
If you get one of these, just write on the application form
"plan not wanted - award only"
*maybe this is the wrong board for this post - I got carried away.
