What software for DVD VIdeo editing?

Hi
Can you help please. How do I convert Video files on a DVD+RW into files that can be edited?
I downloaded my home movies unedited from my cam corder onto DVD discs using a DVD recorder attached to my TV.
These play on virtually any DVD player and also on my computer using "Windows Media Player". I want to edit them on my computer using "Windows Movie Maker" or similar but Windows Movie Maker cant read the DVD it says files not supported. So what do I need?
The cam corder tape is now overwritten many times so the only thing I have are the DVDs.
I have always checked that my computer could read the DVDs but till now it never crossed my mind that editing programs would not be made to read DVDs when Windows Media Player can read them with ease.
Thanks

Rip the files from the disk using http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ then point windows movie maker towards them. The AUDIO_TS file should be empty, whilst the VIDEO_TS file should contain loads of .bup, .ifo and .vob files. Those all relate to the dvd's contents.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

Thanks for that. I grabed it but no time to look at it yet. The write up seems to say that it does the reverse of what I want ie AVI to DVD not DVD to AVI but I will see what it does when I get a Mo.0 -
