strange photos on i-pad

Hi Guys, I posted this ages ago, and never really got a satisfactory reply.
Yesterday, in photos on my i-pad, a photo of someones foot,( with gout) appeared , as if I had taken it, obviously a home shot by someones i-phone/pad..
Trouble is, I didn't and it was dated 2010,4.5 years before I bought my i-pad?
This isn't the first pic to appear, out of the blue, and I've had several.
Anyone have any ideas how they get there?
They do no harm,??? but, confusing how they end up on my i-pad, in photos.

Sounds like the iPad is pulling from the cloud - did you buy the iPad second hand?
  • Which album are the photo's appearing in?
Does anyone else have access/use your iPad?
Are your iCloud details correct? As cono1717 pointed out, someone else could be using your iCloud account. You can check this by logging to iCloud and clicking 'Settings', all devices connected to your iCloud account will be listed here.
Apps like Whatsapp automatically download images (that were received) into your photos app. So maybe someone is using that app?

Hi Guys, I bought it new 18 months ago, and only me uses it, mainly banking.
I don't use I cloud, and only have a dozen pics of mine on I-pad, rarely take pics.
    they are kept in moments.?
I use screen shot, then delete, same as pics, when not required.
Don't even recall setting an account up with i-cloud, so cannot see how someone could have similar name?.
The only password I have on my i-pad, is my Apple ID.
Can I switch I Cloud off, I don't use it????
    Is it like Google Drive?

Apple tends to join new iThing owners to the Cloud automatically.

What is your answer to "You can check this by logging to iCloud and clicking 'Settings', all devices connected to your iCloud account will be listed here" from MrMike?

Hi B,thanks for reply, this is the part I cannot fathom, do you mean settings on homepage, or within i-cloud, which I cannot locate?.
If I can get someone elses pics on my Ipad, it must mean they can get mine, including sceenshots of bank statements etc.
I cannot ever recall setting I cloud up, so have no login details, only my Apple ID and PW,so presume it's that?
when I login to I cloud ,with it, it says I-cloud drive turned on,4.5gb available.
    There's only my I-pad there, nothing else;
I'm not sharing, that's turned off.
So I have turned the I-cloud drive off, presuming this will stop my pics being uploaded to i-cloud, and vice versa. .again presuming it's synced, and turned on by default???
I've no idea how these other pics appear.
Am I correct, or have I missed something??

These pictures - I don't suppose they could be from people in your family? Apple has a system called family sharing (I believe) basically it shares photos between devices - has any of your relatives got gout and an iOS device??? I know it's a longshot :P

    thanks cono, but, no.
they all have ipads /phones etc, but these are not theirs, they are someone elses.
I've no idea, a pic of someones gout ridden foot on a stool, him sitting in a chair, isn't any of my family:eek:
I've had others in the past, goodness knows who's they are?
the last one from 2010, I never had an ipad then, it's only 18 months old, from new.
I don't have share switched on, and no sharing set up.
    confusing to say the least.:)

If you log into iCloud you should see what is in the pic below - correct? Then click on the Photos icon. Is there anything there?

If there's absolutely nothing then iCloud is not activated for photos.

The gouty photo, is it in your main Album or in 'My Photo Stream'? The latter would be pics from other devices that share the iCloud account. If the photo is in "My Photo Stream" there's the possibility that Apple's servers have had crossed lines. It's not impossible and would have very serious implications!

Next, on your iPad, go to Photos > Years. In the year of that mystery photo, is a location, eg a country or county shown to the right of that year number? If so tap on it and is should show a map of where the photo was taken (if it was taken on an iPhone or iPad).

Finally I have another 2 theories.

You/someone you lent the iPad to, accidentally saved the mystery image from the web Browser Safari. I think my missus used to do this occasionally till she got the hang of the iPad, it only takes 2 taps on an image for this to happen.

    Or:

If you plug your iPad into some gadgets like a USB reader/memory card with an iPad adapter on it, photos can be automatically uploaded into your iPad from the memory card. Could that be the case? Perhaps when you were charging the iPad via someone else's gadget?

Hi B, thanks again, I'm more confused now.
The pic below is what I get when I press the start button, just in a different sequence.
When I tap the photo icon, I get all my photos, and the ones of the foot etc, which I've deleted, which are all still in, " recently deleted"
I don't log in to i-cloud to do this, just turn the i-pad on? then choose icon I want, safari, pics, etc.
I've never had to log in , ever, I was caught out with the update, that locked me out a while ago, because it wouldn't recognise my Apple ID and PW.
After several long phone calls, Apple sorted it, by restting my Password.
Never used it since, unless I want an App, rarely.
Why would I want to log in to I-cloud??
In fact, I've just looked, and it says at the bottom, log out, so , must be permanently logged in.
    I never use it.
I've just recovered "the foot and all deleted pics., and they are all in All photos album.but will not tell me where on date?
    I don't have My Stream?
The 4 Options are All Photos
    Videos
    Screenshots
    Recently Deleted.
    That's all.
The foot is now in All photos. No mention of Where.
The ones I've taken, say Leeds,England, where I live, and give location.
Sorry if I'm Vague, just hardly ever use it.
Mainly Banking, that's my main concern
Neither of your other 2 options apply, never done either, and didn't have the i-pad in 2010, the date the foot was taken.
