Maternity insurance

Morning all,

My wife is currently self employed and has been for the last year or so, she earns enough to qualify for the maternity allowance from the gov but let's face it, SSP and the like is a bit of a joke.

we both worked for the NHS, I still do. we're looking at her options for maternity insurance as someone told her that should could take out insurance that would cover her wages whilst she was off for x amount of weeks.

I've searched the Internet but haven't turned up anything remotely similar. I've found stuff like help with scans, health checks, aftercare etc but nothing on pay.

has anyone heard of this? know any companies that provide similar insurance?

we were thinking about her returning to the NHS part time for the benefits, keep the other half private sector for the money.

cheers!

I can't see why it would be provided, for something you know would happen if she became pregnant.

I think you just have to save money if you can, to cover gap between benefits and what you need for your budget.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

that was my initial thoughts, why would a company pay for something you are planning for. they'd lose money everytime.

I think they were misinterpretating pregnancy insurance if I'm honest

  • Could it be that the OP is thinking about ''loss of business/profit'' insurance?
Pregnancy will certainly not be covered under this though!
