Xperia M2 back up

I backed up my phone for the first time yesterday (I know, I'm in the Dark Ages :o ). It's a Sony Xperia M2 and I did the back up using their "PC (Xperia) Companion", as prompted. I was expecting to be asked where I wanted to save the back up file, but all I was asked to do was to give the file a name.

After the back up completed I wanted to find the file on my computer to make sure it had backed everything successfully. I can't find it anywhere, when I put a search in for the name, the only thing that comes up is a file (with a completely different name), that when opened looks like a basic webpage programme. How do I know if the back up's been successful if I can't find the file?

Just backed my M5 up to test for you.

It goes into \Documents\Sony\Xperia Companion\Backups of the user logged in at the time.

The folder name for the backup is really random but I imagine this in intentional on the part of Sony and has a purpose. You can tell it is new by the modified date.

OGR, thank you for doing this for me. I've now found the folder and its sub-folders. I'm sorry for being so backward with this, but I was expecting to see, for example with a back up for contacts, a list of the contacts, but I can't see a contacts folder (or am I being too simple?).

Everything is packed up into backup files which I would guess are specific to the Sony software. I don't think it will be as easy as just reading them off. You would have to restore the backup to a phone.

I would suggest you also enable google to backup the device to the cloud using your google account you probably setup when first installing the phone.

Thank you. I haven't backed up to Google Drive (this was the option offered which I imagine is cloud?), as I'm not too trusting of things like that (like I say, I'm afraid I'm a bit in the Dark Ages). I don't even know how to get back to Google Drive to do that now as the options were: back up every week, month etc or never, so I clicked never as there wasn't an ask me later option (there really is no hope for me! :o ). I guess I'd just register with them (I don't remember doing this at the time), and take it from there.
