Meter reading request emails when we have a smart meter

We got new smart meters in July and yet we still get the reminder emails we used to get asking us to send them a meter reading. Should we ignore them? I am worried that when they do the new statement on 1st September that they will estimate it. We are with Npower by the way.
And yes I Know, why not just send readings. The problem is when I looked at the new meters there does not appear to be any reading displayed.
I logged in to the app and according to that the smart meters sent a reading on the 20th July but haven't sent any more since.

Perhaps, for some reason, the smart meters no longer have a strong enough signal to send readings. Do you live in an area with poor mobile coverage and low signal strength?

I'd speak to Npower tomorrow, let them know you have a smart meter and that you want to know why you are receiving emails requesting meter readings.

    Hello donnajunkie

    Thanks for your post.

Sometimes when Smart Meters are fitted, they don't automatically have the function that lets us take readings remotely set up on your account. If you can email us some account info to the address shown in our signature, we'll be happy to arrange this through our Smart Metering Team for you.

    Thanks

    Beth :)

    @donnajunkie
I personally would not rely on the smart meter working 100%. You are financially responsible for the energy used so you still need to keep an eye on the meter readings. Technology goes wrong all the time so always read your own meter and submit a reading if asked to.
If the smart meter is working then if you log on to your npower account, the automatic meter readings should be showing there (and clearly marked as such). If not, then the smart meter isn't doing its job.
Also verify the online smart readings against what your meter actually says

I found the area on the in house display that shows readings and wrote them down. I was going to send them online only for the app to tell me online accounts are offline at the moment. Readings must be submitted by 1st September.

You could always ring and ask what meter readings they have on your account.

The person on Facebook said everything is working as it should. They turned off the function that sends reminder emails and recorded the readings I gave.

    You could try :D
... and then you will find out the answer. ;)

Email is too slow? Really!

Not sure PM is any quicker. If it was available, you'd have to wait for the intended recipient to either sign back into MSE (and hopefully spot they have a message waiting for them) or wait for MSE to send the intended recipient an email saying there is a PM waiting for them (and assuming the intended recipient has requested such email notification)

    ...

That could be a bit of a problem if you ever are tempted to switch supplier ;)

How do you know what the meter reading was on installation? (it was probably zero, but how can you be sure?)
How will you be able to verify any bills you are sent?
