    If the OP contributed to the mortgage (and some bills) instead of paying any child maintenance, won't that count as child maintenance anyway? To actually contribute to the mortgage, wouldn't any payments need to be in addition to the maintenance? Or am I missing something?

    Well if the house had been sold at separation the OP would've been able to purchase and build up equity rather than rent.
