Difficulties Installing Brother Printer on Laptop

I've recently purchased a second hand laptop, which is running Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have been trying without success to install my Brother DCP-145C printer, however when I insert the disc, I receive an error message saying that the drivers are not on the disc, and I am directed to the Brother help station for their updates, which I find OK and download.
After downloading, I receive a message saying that it has decompressed successfully, but nothing happens, and I can't seem to work out what to do next and would be grateful for any assistance.
Many thanks

Gosh...all these laptops with Ultimate installed.
Did you read the instructions?
Once you have decompressed the package, you still need to go into the folder to run the Setup file. The instructions may vary depending on the Windows® 7 version.
If the drivers are already installed into your computer, uninstall them first before you install the new driver.
To uninstall the current drivers, download the Uninstall Tool.
You must be logged on as an Administrator.
If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue.
If the Windows Security dialog box appears, check Always trust software from "Brother Industries, ltd.". and click Install.
Disconnect your Brother machine from your computer if you already connected an interface cable.
Make a temporary folder on your HDD [hard disk drive] as the location to save the downloaded self-extracting file, e.g. C:\brodnt
Download the file to the temporary folder.
Once the download is complete, open the folder and double click on the downloaded file to extract it. Then open the folder that is created.
You will find multiple folders: "xxxx" (where xxxx = your model name) and "Data" in the folder created in Step 4.
Open the "xxxx" (where xxxx = your model name) folder and double click "Setup.exe".
Select your language with reference to the language list and click "OK".
Notes:
If the error message "An error occurred during the installation. ... ." appears, please make sure that you double click the "Setup.exe" in the correct folder in Step 6.
The installation will start. Please follow the installation screen directions.0 -
It has decompressed them to the root of the drive most likely.
Click on C drive and look for a folder "Brother" and it should have your goods uncompressed in there.0 -
Hi Niftydigits and Jshm2,
Thank you both for your advice, it was really helpful and appreciated.
After carefully going through all the installation instructions, and going through the C Drive, I spent ages going through all the decompressed files to find a Brother relevant file, without success, however, just as I was about to give up, I found an obscure file in my Document directory with an option to setup and choose a language, and I am pleased to report that my printer is finally running perfectly without any problems, so thank you both for your kind help, I really appreciate it.
All best wishes and have a good day.
