Car Insurance Albany Query

Hi
I had an accident last night on the way home, a driver pulled out from behind a bus and hit the side of my car, I've got multiple witnesses, dash cam footage etc etc. I'm confident there can be no liability on my part.
I'm insured with Admiral and they have passed me onto Albany and Help Hire, I've been reading all the horror stories on line re: the inflated hire costs for the courtesy car etc and the third party refusing to pay.
So I'm just after some advice, I'm still in the 14 cooling off period, with Albany, no car has been delivered and no repairs to my vehicle either.
What do I do?

  • I am fully comp. when I dent my vehicle, and naturally not at fault, I ring my insurance company. They deal with it. I do not give a flying fig about the idiot who marked my car.

Of course, if you are third party, then it is down to you!

You can consider cancelling your claim with admiral and Albany and going direct to the third party insurer.

(You can always go back to Admiral if the third party insurer won't help you, but when you contact them if they are awkward mention that admiral have already suggested Albany - that should focus their minds!)

I had an accident 3 years ago, someone went in to the back of me. Quite open and shut case, but I went with Albany and thought they were great (apart from struggling to understand people at their Newcastle call centre..)

Interesting who would think to post a review of a Credit Hire Company on Free Index...

23 Reviews, every single review gives 5 stars and none of the reviews are older than three months ago...

Not one of the reviewers who have gone to the trouble of writing a review on Free Index (Whooo) have reviewed any other company...

This post will be removed once Albany complain although it is stating facts

I would cancel Albany and either go to the TP insurer myself or claim on my own policy and let them recover from the TP insurer.

Albany are, in my view, completely unnecessary.

I thought to add my experience.

Christmas Day (of all days) in 2015, my parked car was hit by a third party (an elderly lady). I took photos and notified my insurance company to make a claim.

Boxing Day, I received a text from the third party's insurance company asking me to ring them. She admitted 100% liability. I had never claimed from a third party's insurance before, so naturally I was a bit sceptical about how I would be treated and how my claim would be handled. The same day, I had a phone call from Albany Assistance. I asked who they were - they said my claim had been passed to them by my insurance company. They mentioned they needed me to sign a credit hire agreement. Alarm bells started ringing and I asked them to cancel the claim. I also asked my insurance company to cancel the claim and to log the claim as notification only.

I went to the third party's insurance's innocent third party department. They couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. My car was repaired, albeit a few quality issues with the repair which they handled without fuss, and the claim was sorted in no time. I kept my NCD and no excess to pay.

I've read about Albany Assistance online. I would steer well clear.
