phizzimum...I chucked the empty bottle out and didn't pay loads of attention to the name so I'll find out and get back to you. I'll definitely have it again. I'm usually a blossom hill drinker, so quite mild and fruity, this one was even more so and very sweet, if you like that kind of thing, which I do.

Thanks ani*fan, although I'm more a dry and full bodied kind of girl myself!weaving through the chaos...0 -
mirry...how funny that your dog only eats cat food! :rotfl: Bless!
I haven't tried tins for the purrball for a while, I used to find he couldn't really get through a whole one on his own before it started stinking away in the cupboard, maybe one to keep in mind though.
MrsTinks...purrball had tests done on his renal function and everything's fine, the vet told me he's to go back every 6 months so that's the plan, he's started eating dried food soaked in water and is back to normal now, it's not a major problem, I just notice because I worry about him so much.
He will yowl for food and then eat so much he's sick, if I let him. He's been like that since he was a kitten, so it's a fine balance. I think he's in good shape just now.
Well, I'm away today, have fun without me, see you all at the weekend.

I haven't read the whole thread, sorry, but I noticed that you said you liked Quorn because it tastes like mushroom - have you tried this recipe? https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2015/11/14/mushroom-and-spinach-bolognese-38p-vegan/
Good luck - I'm subscribing xx0 -

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. Some really good money saving ideas. Thanks
For all you fresh fruit and veg lovers make sure you check out a post MSE's Jordon Cox on bagged fruit and veg. (cannot post a link yet but search 'Jordon fruit bag').
Amazing savings just to ditch the pre-packaging. I think Eat Well for Less covered this at some point too. This saving applies to the discounters as well who bump up the price for pre-packaged fruit and veg.You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. But to ignore the future is foolish - living solely for the moment leaves nothing for when the next moment arrives.0 -
I really should join in with this. Living on cash for food this month AND I have to eat the contents of freezer and cupboards as we are having a new kitchen fitted on October 2nd. So might not necessarily need to buy "food" but do need vegetables and general house stuff
We have a major problem in our house with overspending on food and buying takeaways
Money money money.

it's ok for dogs to eat cat food (according to our vet) and as our dog is now 11 Years old it must be true
I keep her food in a sealed container in the fridge & mix it with dry mix.
Lilian1977, I like the look of that recipe & it's very cheap!
The past few days we have all been ill with a sickness bug.
Hubby's back at work today and I'm going to make a sweet potato & carrot soup.
Our freezer is full and as the colder weather kicks in I'm going to stock up on some tins of soup, rice pud, custard, crumble fillings, veg stew (& any other tins you guys can think of?) but it must be on offer
Kindness costs nothing

Hi everyone.
I'm back, and not quite sure what's happening with the food budget. The cash in the pot got muddled up with a couple of debit card payments OH made, that in themselves got muddled up with buying gifts that should have come from the present fund. Confused? You better believe it.
I'll have a better look tonight and try to sort it out and work out a total. On the plus side, OH has indeed got lots of shopping in, so that's good.
It's lovely to be back.

So, after much juggling of money, looking for receipts, checking bank accounts and moving hard cash around (didn't realise OH could make so much of a muddle in 4 days) etc etc I have discovered that the food pot has £170.13 in it, meaning £47.60 was spent in my absence. That's all fine because we have things like toilet roll, poatoes, more freezer stuff, tins of kidney beans for the veggie burgersand so on, plus £4 of that I spent on fruit when I got back.
We're almost half way through the month and not yet half way through the budget. This is good.
Onwards to the next part, I'm determined to come in under £250, let's see what happens.
How's everyone else doing?

that's good going ani*fan, amazing when all those small saving add up to big savings

This month has been a lot more expensive for me as I've set my daughter up for uni, to help her out, everything from washing powder to tea bags, but all on a budget!
My son left home earlier this year, so now we have empty nest syndrome & our shopping bill will be tiny (to what it was).
I'm thinking no more than £50 a week for two adults & the dog....it will be interesting.Kindness costs nothing
