Our allotment contract specifically states that keeping hens is fine, but keeping cockerels is not allowed. Might be similar with allotments elsewhere - and if so then you could ask the council to contact the allotment owner, and ask for the cockerel to be removed. Assuming it's on an allotment, and not in a back garden!

I don't suppose the cockerel could have belonged to your vendors and has done a "Homeward Bound" journey back to its familiar territory?

I do apologise but also cannot resist: Unless you do follow the sound and find out eggsactly where it is coming from, there is not much you can do, I guess... maybe you're too chicken.

It happens so many times though. Everyone knows that this development is going to see the end of a fantastic venue in Moseley B'ham as soon as the people move in.

As for the cockerel - instead of wondering if neighbours have also reported why don't you ask them? If you speak to others and they find it a nuisance too, you can work together to get something done (others may know whose cockerel it is). Conversely if they don't have an issue with the noise, you know that it is something you will probably just need to get used to.

Whoops, we've just had an offer on a house which has views of a church........ never thought to ask if it had a chiming clock...... Didn't hear one if it has. We're not local so it's hard to nip back and check.

We used to keep chickens and a cockerel.
You will only get it crowing in the summer really (that you will hear). It starts when dawn breaks. As Autumn approaches that will be later and later in the day. Equally they go to bed when dusk falls, so in the winter that could be 8am wake up and 3pm go to sleep.
I would go with silicone ear plugs (OH swears by them) until you are used to the noise, or when it wakes at a more sensible time.
