Terrible freeholder

I'm selling my property and the freeholder has dragged if out for 6months. He threatened to take me to court over minor issues do I paid him off to go away, all done through solicitors.
He now has took 2 months to answer one question, if he gives permission for historic work that an old owner to my flat did. My solicitor say according to my lease I don't need permission but still want to get something in writing from the freeholder before they approach my buyer with this.
Freeholder is refusing to answer and letters and phone calls not working.
What legal options do I have? Can I get local council involved?
Thank you

Given that your solicitor has said it's unnecessary I don't understand why you are wasting time doing anything. I can't see why the council would get involved in a private matter such as this.0

Essentially that means the seller's solicitor is saying consent is unnecessary. The buyer's solicitor (or the buyer) might think consent is necessary.
@Londongirl - is this in response to a question raised by the buyer? Or are you proactively trying to resolve any potential issues? If the buyer hasn't actually asked the question, maybe let it drop.
It sounds like you've already have one dispute with your freeholder - which you'll need to declare to your buyer. You want to avoid any more.0 -
If the buyer brings it up you can buy an indemnity policy to cover them if the freeholder tries to query the work being done at a later date.0

Hi
It is in response to a question raised buy the buyer.... They know about the other dispute and I'm lucky they didnt mind.
My solicitor has issued a letter giving freeholder 7 days to respond or I take them to court but it's annoying as it will cost me a fortune and he still might not respond! Plus my buyer may back out in the meantime.0 -
Ok thanks I will look in to that as well.0

I too had a b@stard of a freeholder and was worried he would cause the sale of my flat to collapse - he did not do anything. Luckily I managed to sell but only because I constantly harrassed, threatened and annoyed him so much that he just wanted to get rid of me! Given the stupid leaseholder system I can only wish you luck as you really have no power to force a freeholder to reply to any questions.0

Indemnity insurance is probably not an option, because you have contacted the freeholder about it (which would increase the risk of a claim).0

Thanks economic... My solicitor has said they are giving him 7 days then taking action .. He will prob prefer to go to court then let me sell ... He has harassed me continually since I moved in.
Taking him to court will cost me a lot but what can I do... Does anyone know about the process if I take him to court.0 -
Doesn't it just make you want to rush out and buy a leasehold property?

New to the forum.
I too have a horrible freeholders (father and son duo) I was hoping someone may be able to help me...
I have a maisonette in a block of 4 flats. I have been living there for 13 years. The other free holders are the duo whom have rented out the other 3 flats (only been there 5 years). They have approached me to sell my flat to which I was happy to do so but at a market price, I was then continuously harassed by calls and emails to change the roof and window to my flat ONLY etc. unnecessary work so I have asked them get quotes since they are the majority but to date they have not provided with. I have also asked them to refer all enquiries via my SA and Solicitors. I then found a place for me to move into but the duo didn’t want to know so I put it on the market and found a buyer. Unfortunately my buyer pulled out (personal reasons) so I was back to square one. I then asked my SA to reach out to him if he still wished to purchase but freeholders wants to discuss the sale with me . I have tried to contact the duo on calls and emails but no joy for two weeks now, So I put back on the market and finally have a another buyer now but I am worried that I will go through the same trouble again…PLEASE HELP!!
My purchase is at almost exchange stage and I am worried that will lose all the money spent... :@0
