Jet2 Online Checkin Issues

"We’re sorry our online check-in limit, of seats that we can allocate automatically, has been reached so we’ve switched you to airport check-in. Please note you will not be charged any additional fees for collecting your boarding pass at the airport."

I was trying to check in online for my Jet2 flight and have received the message above saying I'm unable to do so. I'm a little bit alarmed as I've never had a message like that before trying to check in. I'm concerned I'm going to arrive at the airport and find the flight is full!

Have people had these messages before and managed to fly without issue? The flights are only once a day and I don't have time to wait for the next day as I'm going to a wedding.

Its unlikely it will be overbooked. Its likely that they have x amount of preallocated seats which have been done, and the rest do at the airport.

If you're that worried contact them. They are the only ones who can give you the correct information.

I'd be quite surprised if it means anything other than exactly what it says, although I've never flown with Jet2 so I can't offer any personal experience of their check in.

It means they have run out of seats that are together so then go manual due to kids needing to be near a parent etc.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

How close are you to the date? You can do Jet2 28 days before you fly but I must admit I forgot last time and left it to 14 days before.

What was curious was there were 4 of us including 2 kids. On first getting to the seat layout page it placed us all over the place with the option to purchase preassigned seats of course..

By simply going back a screen then forward again it placed us in a different place each time until 3rd time it seated us all together without having to pay a penny, same for the return flights.

A cynical person might thing the system 'tries it on' at first to see if it can panic some people into paying the pre-selected option, then gives up. Surely not ;)

More surprising that it seated you all together with only three attempts.

I'd have expected it more to be a scenario similar to infinite monkeys with infinite typewriters waiting to produce a Shakespeare play.
  • It was only 2 days before that I tried to do it. I hadn't actually realised you could do it so far in advance. I was just checking times to plan a train and saw the checkin was open (or not as it turn out) I managed to get on my flight but there was a lot of hand wringing at the airport. It took me about 35 minutes to get checked in but I ended up getting an exit row seat for free.

So no harm done but it didn't feel like business as usual at the airport really. I'll try and remember that jet2 have early checkin next time. Although I can't really see the point of letting you do it so far in advance. It doesn't really seem an indicator of whether you'll actually show up or not.

    Thanks for your advice :)

I experienced this last week when I tried to check in.
Having read your post I tried your technique of going back then forward. It did not work, it just gave me the same seats.

What did work was this:- Keep the seats 'on hold' in the original browser, open another browser and try again; slightly better seats. Keep those 'on hold' and open a 3rd browser. Booked with the 3rd set of seats options.

I used 3 different browsers. Don't know if it would work with same browser with different tabs or windows, or if they store cookies/ flash cookies to prevent this.

So we are checked in and boarding passes printed off.

Great result! I can't remember if I used the 'back' buttons on the webpage or the browser back buttons, maybe that makes a difference. Glad you persevered and 'beat' the system.
