Credit card payment dates

Hi all

I have made well above the minimum payment to my Santander credit card before the payment due date, however due to stoozing I hadn't anticipated how much I would need this month and my balance is getting uncomfortably close to the limit. Is it possible to make a payment between the minimum payment due date and the new statement date or would I get penalised for this?

July statement date: 27/7/16
Payment made: 28/7/16
Min payment due by: 22/8/16
Next statement date: 25/8/16

Many thanks for your help.

  • You can make payments whenever you want - the only risk would be that it might not clear before the statement is produced which would mean the statement amount would not reflect the payment.
  • Thank you, I'll give it a go now. There's around £25 available I think so I should be fine, I just worry! I believe Santander usually wait until the end of the day of the statement date to produce the statement anyway so hopefully should be fine.

Lots of people will make several payments in a month. You can pay whenever you like. The main risk with doing so between due date and statement date is where people make their only monthly payment then.

You need to also make at least the minimum payment after the statement date and before the next due date.
