New PC for my 11 year old son - what to buy?

  • Ever thought about just getting him a console? For £500 you could kit him out with a Playstation 3 and a few games....
  • Hi,
He already has a PS1 and PS2 and the PC is needed for school work and internet access. The gaming is just an extra for him, so I think a PC is the way to go. Thanks.

This looks quite good, but for gaming an extra £58 is needed for a GeForce 8600 GT upgrade (cheaper from Dell than separately!).

PC Next Day have a similar system with a better graphics card for marginally higher price:

Note before everyone gets started - yes the 8600 GT is not a high-end gamers card; but nor is a £500 PC - at this price it is reasonable.

Thanks for all your input everyone.
Went for Mobeer's recommendation in the end, so many thanks Mobeer. :T

Says allow up to 10 working days for delivery but hoping it may arrive sooner.

Also will get 3% cashback from Quidco which will pay for the delivery charge. :)

  • We ordered from Mesh a few years ago. The computer was supposed to be for my sister to take to university, there was a set delivery date which they then failed to meet so we cancelled the order as my sister needed the comptuer to take that week.

We cancelled however they still charged us the £60 delivery fee...then a couple of weeks later the whole computer system turned up! A few hundred pounds worth of computer for £60, it was bargain!
  • Got my £14+ cashback from Quidco validated already! :)
