Sorry, I meant to include that in my post.

We live in the Highlands, so the only local airport is Inverness which has limited (and expensive) international flights. So we're flexible, since we can drive to any Scottish airport or fly from Inverness to Manchester (I think) or London.

We're getting married on 1st July 2017, so looking to fly out a few days later if possible.

We'll be doing the usual tourist stuff in LA - Universal Studios, Hollywood Walk of Fame, tour of the stars' neighbourhoods etc. A day of sunbathing would be nice too though!

    Lots of variations to answers

My post here has links to other threads + Eclipse in 2017.

Alternatively, it can often be cheaper and more flexible to book the trip as an open jaw (i.e return from a different airport from which you arrived) and then sort out the internal flights independently using low cost carriers.

    Completely agree with this advice.
The other advantage is, if you book all your flight on one ticket, the most restrictive rules apply if you need to make any changes. US domestic flights are most often non-refundable and changes are USD 200, which often makes it far cheaper to buy a new ticket than change it.

I agree with other people r.e. NYC. It might be worth you checking if you'd like to change your itinerary to Vegas - LA - San Fran, or the one I did, Vegas - LA - Hawaii - Vegas.

Also agree with Doshwaster r.e. the national Parks. There are some stunning places where you can get a cabin with a hot tub on the balcony.

Hi, We did a 2 week roadtrip on the West Coast for our honeymoon 7 years ago, then another 2 weeks East Coast last year. I'd suggest maybe stick to one or the other, unless you have the New York 3 nights at the start or the end of the trip.

LA was our last port of call after San Fransisco, Carmel, Yosemitee, Death Valley and Vegas. To be honest I was abut disappointed with LA after all that! It's a huge place, but we enjoyed it the least, Though of course we did the stars home tour bus trip, and Universal was good. Yosemitte was just beautiful, and wished we stayed longer than the 2 nights.

I'm sure I read that Delta were doing US flights from Newcastle, which might be worth looking into. Last year we got great price flights on Thomas Cook from Manchester the NY, then booked separate flights from washington DC to Buffalo (for Niagara) and then from Buffalo to Boston, then more flights from Portland Maine back to NY.

These were all with different US airlines, and discovered things like time changes and even cancellations happened a lot before we travelled. In fact Washington DC to Niagara was a bit of a mare, as they changed the time and we hadn't been notified by email, and we missed it! We drove between the other destinations.
