First time renting - what's reasonable for the landlord to charge us for on leaving

Oh, and as a side note the Landlord told me that as I hadn't given him formal notice one month before the end of the fixed tenancy then I would be liable for an additional months rent. Soon put him right on that one.0

Silicone sealant can definitely grow mould after a year or two and that is perfectly normal. Replacing silicone sealant every few years is regular maintenance that the landlord should do, just like repainting. Some brands of silicone are more mildew resistant than others and I'd bet your average landlord uses the cheapest least mould resistant kind. I would not expect it to remain mould free for long unless you are to completely dry it after each shower which would be ridiculous.
The HG Mould Speay product is good, but not perfect and it's more expensive than a new tube of silicone...student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
They do - I can go out to my car after parking it overnight and find new cobwebs on my wind mirror (on my '16 plate car).Cobwebs don't grow in two days, so if you had it cleaned thoroughly the day you left, you wouldn't expect them there. It might be considered enough evidence that the place wasn't cleaned to the standard it was in when you moved in (assuming it was indeed immaculate cleaning wise.
I can go out to hang washing on the line and find new cobwebs there.
In this heat, I've been having the house windows open, but closing them when I go out; I have opened windows and found new cobwebs on them.
Them pesky spiders are quick on their feet!0 -

Every car comes with a wing mirror spider, I think they are installed during manufacture
