Creda Europa Solarplus Built-in Oven. Indicator light always on.

We have an old Creda Europa Solarplus built-in double oven. Must be over 20 years old but works fine. (Don't have the model number - apparently you have to get the oven out to find it!)

Beside the main oven control knob there's an indicator light that comes on when the oven is working, and goes off when the oven's up to temperature.

But since yesterday the indicator light stays very dimly lit when it should be off. Even when the oven is off it stays dimly lit. It still goes fully lit when the oven is working. Everything else is still working fine.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

(Yes, it may be best to get a new oven. Are built in ovens a standard size - is a new one likely to fit into the existing unit? Really don't want a dodgy light to end up meaning a new kitchen!)

The thermostat light is controlled by the energy regulator and it is likely that this has worn.

You could get another one from a spares stockist e.g. here

Note that the "compatible" one should work just as well for about half the cost.

The model number is likely to be 48147 S but check before ordering.

Thank you. I've looked at a couple of videos showing how to replace an energy regulator. I haven't yet found a video or instruction manual for a cooker like mine, but in principle it looks like a fairly simple job to replace this part.

    Much appreciated.

Ah. Having said everything was working except the light...

Just turned the oven on, the oven fan is going as normal but NO HEAT! The top oven is working.

Could the wonky light and the no heat both be caused by the energy regulator?

Or is it new oven time...

It should be repairable and it still points to the energy regulator having worn out, perhaps one of the small contacts has become detached causing the light problem and preventing the current flowing when you are calling for heat. You can easily check the resistance of the oven heating element with a £5 multilmeter but I would still guess that it is the regulator as they do wear out over time. It is an easy and cheap repair that you can at least try.

Thank you for the advice. However it's starting to get just a little out of my DIY comfort zone and, more pertinently, she who must be obeyed has decided it's new cooker time. Current frontrunner is the Hotpoint Newstyle DHS53XS.

If you're lucky that will be a modern version of the Creda. Check the oven capacity is what you are used to. We bought our first Creda double oven in 1976, we bought a later version in about 1993 & our latest, this time with the Hotpoint name on it, in about 2005.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
