Student current account switching?

Hey!
Basically, i'm a student and the free 4 year railcard with Santander's student current account is very tempting! When i spoke to them in branch recently, they said as i was already a student with a student current account with another provider, i would need to switch this account over to them. I already have an everyday current account with Santander and was hoping to upgrade this. The thing is i'm very happy with my existing student current account and don't want to switch away from them. However cheekily, i just want the free railcard from Santander.
I was wondering when you apply through CASS (Current Account Switch Service) can the banks see what type of current account you're switching over? More specifically can they tell the difference between a normal bog standard current account and a student current account?
I'm guessing they might look for certain features such as a big overdraft facility and payments from SFE?
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If you are anything other than a 1st year student Santander require you to switch into their student account using CASS from another bank.
That is how it is.0 -

No they can't tell. I did exactly this to get the railcard. Just kept my old student account and switched a normal current account.0 -
Strictly no, however if you switch student to student you might miss out on the switching incentives as some T&Cs only offer the incentives to certain bank accounts.
So what you could always do is switch it to an account that pays an incentive, then once it's sorted ask that bank to change you to a student ac?0
