Is the quote of £950 on your car after a proper inspection or a quick look? I am asking because with a shunt that is hard enough to smash her radiator, there is the strong possibility that there is hidden damage to your car beyond just the bumper - the boot floor etc could be damaged and this could be expensive. If you accept their £950 and the repairer finds more damage, it will be a tough job getting the extra out of the other party.

As you have already notified your insurer, you have nothing to lose by claiming through them (if the other insurer won't play ball), and it will be a lot less hassle for you. And if the other party is not insured and gets a penalty because of that, you'd be doing us all a favour, as foxy-stoat says.

This is the important question. Just got my car back from the body shop. Slight ding against own garden wall. Body shop said only the plastic wheel arch. When stripping, the metal interior arch also damaged.

You just don't know what damage there is until it is stripped

Just query MID directly. They'll tell you the policy number and the insurer.

    Interesting facility!

    I wonder if cynically

    a) they then use the data if you dont claim to flag a a secret flag on your policy renewal (from the mid database) that you've had a bump but not claimed ?

    b) some dodgy employee at MID straight away sells the information to crash management ambulance chaser companies to start ringing you with "Have you had an accident within the last 15 minutes!".

The quote was based on photos taken by the Toyota garage and emailed to their accident repair centre so yes, perfectly possible that there could be more damage (and of course their quote contains a disclaimer to this effect). Thanks for your input, I'll be calling the insurers.
