O/S Daily Wednesday 24 August 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Now light, but very cloudy and overcast but very warm and humid.

Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, peas, HG green beans and gravy - the whole pie finished so no LO's. Tonight fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Work yesterday was another all or nothing sort of day but very quiet at times, but that's normal for this point in the holidays, especially the weeks' either side of the August bank holiday weekend. I'm working all day again today but I'm quite grateful for that as the office has air con.

Keep safe and well x

Thanks for the thread nmlc, MM congratulations on the twins, hugs to Csarina and Hilstep.

I got the spare room ready for hubby's friend but he didn't arrive, maybe he'll be here today, who knows.

I'm collecting the littlest DGD this morning at 7:30 after I've dropped hubby at work, I'll keep her for a while so DD2 can have a lie in. There is a possibility of a job coming up in September that would be school hours so she would no longer have to work nights, so fingers crossed that it happens.

No plans much for today, a 2 year old and a heatwave aren't really conducive to getting much done.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning All

Beautiful bright morning here, yesterday's rain was a bit depressing! Washing on the line and everything ship-shape, salad for lunch.

Hopefully getting my car back today, hope DD has a better journey back, it was torrential rain for her drive there. If she's back in time she can pick me up from work, otherwise I can get the train out to hers.

Lainey - your boss sounds to be a horror.
Thinking of you csarina and hilstep.
Enjoy your last few days JackieO.

Have a good Wednesday. Take care. XX

    Morning all.

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

When I woke up there was dense fog outside though it's clearing now, thankfully. No heatwave here unfortunately.

Yesterday was weirdly productive in a 'sitting down' way. An awful lot of time on laptop clearing out work related rubbish. Got a long whining email :( from one of my team so I sent an equally long one back going into more detail than was necessary just because I was irritated.

The rest of my week is now stuffed up a bit, not in a bad way but nevertheless it's all going wrong. Plan was - spend today cooking and cleaning ready for next set of visitors on Friday: Thursday spend the day taking a local woman to QE hospital in Glasgow: Friday back down to Glasgow to collect visitors.

Now the revised plan is - both visitors and patient are on the same day. It's a bit of a problem but not something too difficult, luckily both airport and hospital are on the south side and I think the timings will be OK. The added curve is that one of my nephews is in Glasgow working and we want to have at least lunch together so I'm now going to zoom down to see him and his new business venture. Stuff the cleaning and cooking!

The guest bedroom is ready as I sorted it out after the last set of visitors so it's only the kitchen floor which could do with a clean. I'll tell them to not look down. :rotfl:

Right, I suppose I should make an effort and get out of bed.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

Morning, thanks nmlc for the thread X

It looks like another hot day is on its way. We had all the windows open last night and I was woken up at 1am by foxes 'doing the deed'. Pesky things. My friend had her entire enclosure of chickens taken on Friday night so I'm not their biggest fan right now.

Today I'm at the church. DH has an eye test at 9am - not had one in four years and he wears glasses permanently, so will need a new prescription for sure. I will pop down to help him choose new frames. The house smells as we had kedgeree last night. Love it but it's the dinner that keeps on giving! Still no news on DH's job interview.

Washing is in the machine. I have a stack of ironing to do, so will do that later, probably on the patio as its so hot!

Jackie - have really enjoyed hearing about your hols. Enjoy Shanklin X
Hugs to all who need one xx

    Have a great day all

Coxy Sorry about your friend's chickens

I've spent hours fighting with the laptop, I knew Live Mail was changing but I didn't pay much attention til my emails stopped arriving. I downloaded Thunderbird but could only get one email address to work at a time. Eventually after a lot of frustration and swearing, emails from both accounts started arriving, about a weeks worth all in one go. I haven't actually read any yet, my brain was frazzled by that point and I needed to do something other than stare and swear at a screen :D

I've got a couple of loads of washing to do, it should dry quickly in this heat. Scampi is madly shedding fur at the moment so I need to hoover everything daily, the lounge carpet sometimes needs doing twice a day. I have a couple of hours work to do, I'll leave that til this afternoon. I can't do much when it's hot, I wilt so easily :D So I'm saving jobs where I don't have to move much for hot afternoons.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc x

Bit of high cloud here at the moment but boy is it already warm, slept on top of the bed last night.
Have booked today as a days holiday, just need sometime to myself as feeling very overwhelmed at the moment, think it's finally sinking in what is happening? I don't seem to be able to concentrate on much at the moment, scared myself yesterday as got to work and seriously couldn't remember anything of the 30 minute drive :( so today will just be spent relaxing as much as I can and having a chilled day.
I do have plans to meet up with two of my friends tonight for a meal so am looking forward to that, we all used to work together and have know each other for years so it will lovely to have a catch up. Thank goodness for friends, in RL and over the Internet ether :)
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Sat here on the deck with a cuppa and thinking about what to do today I need to go shopping as DH was moaning there was no salad for his lunch but as we had plenty of food in the fridge and freezer still I didn't feel too bad . Dog has been walked and Wm is on ironing basket has become a mountain again so will try to get up early to do that tomorrow morning when it's cooler. Waiting to speak to DS to find out if he has got the date for his tour with the army supposed to be going for three months from September but we still don't have a date grrrr
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to x
  • Morning,

Usual evening for me yesterday. After work I went to the gym, home for haggis, neeps & tatties then went to the SM for some bits and bobs and an early night.

Up early this morning and been to the gym. Todays the day that my boss is going to hand in her notice so it'll be a funny afternoon I'm sure. 5 more shifts and I'm finished!

Hester - Fingers crossed for you and the job.
Gers - Sounds like you'll be kept busy. Hope it's not too stressful.
Jackie - Enjoy your last few days of the break :)
Lainey - Hope you enjoy yourself tonight. Catching up with good friends is always a good pick-me-up.

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Well yesterday turned out to be an absolute pig of a day. I went in to see OH, came home and had some lunch, was then bombarded by telephone calls from the hospital. The top and bottom of it was they wanted OH out!!I refused until they had some sort of care package in place.

He has been discharged with a home rehab package, physios coming to to deal with his mobility and nurses morning and night. I was told to collect him at 6.30pm. I arrived at the hospital to be told that he was not ready, they had a query about some of the drugs and his discharge letter was not done. I was a very unhappy bunny after 2 hours, I threw more than my toys out the pram (nappy) as well He was discharged. I had to blackmail them into letting a nurse take OH to our car, which was parked well away from the hospital, in a wheel chair, there was no way he could walk apart from which I was doing them a favour, so they could jolly well do me one.

I am not supposed to drive at night, we finally arrived home at 9.25pm having driven at 40 mph all the way. Cup of tea, nurses visit and bed!!

Needless to say I did not sleep well, it was hot and OH kept moaning he was hot, eventually I put the fan on, he went to sleep, the noise of the fan kept me awake until after 4am.

The gas men cometh at 7.30am, so that did not last long, they are now digging the road up.........

I will go through and get OH up, he can sit on a chair outside and watch them. No idea what time the nurses or physio are coming. I have no one to sit with him tomorrow so the class will have to go on without me.

I have to contact the carers support service and try and arrange for someone to sit with him whilst I go shopping and also to cover Septembers quilting class.....I am not holding my breath!!

I am also going to download the paper work for additional carers allowance, OH needs help washing and dressing. Keep your fingers crossed........
