Hi I am looking to dump Norton Internet Security in favour of the AVG package instead.
Online you can buy this from the US site for $69.95 or the UK site sells it for £41.95.
Will this be identical on both sites as the US would be far cheaper with the current exchange rate.
Thanks

I have the free edition of AVG and it does a great job for me. Any reason you want the paid version?Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

I agree. Why bother paying when you can get all the needed software for free?
As for AVG, the paid version of the software provides commercial use, 24-7 support, multiple languages and downloads, it also provide anti-spam, anti-spyware and firewall (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/frt/0).
Anti-spyware, spam and a firewall can all be obtained for free (spyware can be got from the same people who do AVG, firewall try ZoneAlarm but Spam can be tricky because you need to stop e-mails you want being designated as spam).
Basically, don't shell out the money for something you don't need. You can get very good programs to do the job of the product you are thinking of buying for free. Save the money and buy a bottle of whisky (or your favourite tipple) and if you have any questions ask on here.0 -

Here you go...NOD32 vs AVG:
Effective Protection:
NOD32 - 45 VB100 awards.
AVG - 18 VB100 awards, 22 failed tests.
Blackhat Conference:
NOD32 Command Line Scanner - 82.83% detection of malware.
AVG - 26.28% detection of malware.
System Performance on XP (the speed at which the AV software can scan files)
NOD32 throughput - 7330KB/s
AVG - 2250 KB/s
I'd rather pay £14 for NOD32..0 -
NOD32 gets my vote tooDon't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best
Just because it's free don't mean it's good
Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:
Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right0 -
Just would like to point out I'm not anti-free software. Apart from Windows, NOD32 and the games on my PC, everything else is free/open source even using Open Office despite having 10 Office 2003 and 10 Office 2007 licences sat here.0

I know what you mean, all my security releated software is freeware except for NOD32 which I'm quite happy to pay for as it is genuinely good value for money."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It's currently just an antivirus (they're beta testing a complete security package). But as I mentioned, I use NOD32 and then freeware for everything else. I have comodo for my firewall and various antispyware packages (just relying on one isn't a good idea). So it's still much cheaper than Norton's all in one and I'd say much more effective as well.
Copy and paste from my post in the security sticky:
Currently installed that I use (some only kind of security related), (f)=freeware (p)=paid/subscription
Firewall: Comodo (f)
Antivirus: NOD32 (p)
Antispyware: A-Squared (f), AVG Antispyware (f), Spybot S&D (f), Superantispyware (f)
Auto-Backup (online): Mozy Unlimited (p)
Encryption: Truecrypt (f)
Misc. maintenance: CCleaner (f), Hijackthis (f)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
