PLEAE HELP! Inspiration needed for v special trip

I'm in serious trouble and need help on a trip somewhere really special for two for around five days at the end of November to beginning of December.

Warm weather would help, beach or city fine, but must be an eye-catcher. I'd like a good deal as ever but it's more important that it shows I mean business - up to £1,000?

Would also be useful if it's a good place to buy a diamond!

Don't think she'll come anyway but it's my last chance.

MSEers have never let me down before - please help!

Lake Como in Italy is the most beautiful and romantic place I have been to. It's incredibly sophisticated.

I'm sure any of the lakes would be as lovely. Not sure about the weather but who needs warm if it gives you an excuse to cuddle up?!

As for diamonds, I'd still say Birmingham's jewellery quarter! Otherwise perhaps NY on the exchange rate but the trip might be a budget buster

Does that work? The picture still don't do the place justice, it's breathtaking. We stayed in Cernobbio, only a few minutes on the watertaxi to Como but lovely in itself.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If you book it and get blown out at short notice. Give me a PM. It's my birthday at the end of November, I'm single, have a passport (never been used) and haven't had any kind of holiday for 12 years, never mind an expensive one.

    :)

    Good luck.

Thanks, Lake Como is a great suggestion. We had a great holiday in Italy a couple of years ago and both love it but we haven't been there. Might even get a flight from Birmingham!

I'm not going to book before asking her because I really don't fancy my chances. Also, I won't be much company if she says no PasturesNew buth thanks for the offer!

we stayed here last november and have booked to go back again on this trip this year. its a fab place, just right for a couple.

the price is great as we paid over £900 for the same thing last year.

the photo doesnt do it any justice, this place has just been refurbished and has brand new everything.

Sounds great. Think I'll ask her if there's anywhere in the world she'd like to go. But any more ideas would be wonderful (if ultimately pointless!)

Don't be such a defeatist! Tell yourself that she will say yes, and believe it. Then spend half an hour looking at the photos and imagine how great it will be. Once you are really excited about going there, that is when you ask her.

Anyway, if she has such poor taste that she throws away the great chance you are offering her, then get on to Pastures New straight away. Maybe someone else will snap her up first..

Hi Pastures new. You sound like the kind of adventurous woman I need in my life. I've just lost my job and need help blowing my redundancy money. How about a naughty weekend in Biarritz?

Sorry OP, I think you've lost your chance with her.
  • Diamond rings are much cheaper in New York than in the UK. Our solitair was about half the price you would pay here. 47th Street is where the dealers are. Visit one in the booths scattered around (about the size of a small bathroom) Make sure they are certified by the GIA. Get it made to size there and then. Very romantic to see it actually being put together. Anyway, the point is what you save on the ring compared to elsewhere will go a long way towards the trip. Make sure you post the receipts etc home from there and she wears it through customs (no box) otherwise you'll pay duty etc. When we came home and had it valued it was about twice what we paid for it.
  • I would agree with jaspal dubai has it all. I have been buying at the gold souk there from the same jeweller for the past 10 years and most of it has been made to my design. If there is nothing you like from there displays they will make any design or copy something you like from a picture, they normally take 2 to 3 days for this and you must barter for a good price on anything. If you do book Dubai you could pm me and I will give you the jeweller's details and the person's name who I deal with if you are concerned about buying the diamond there.

You will be :j when you come home and get it valued.
