Underground Cable Ducting - Is This Quote Fair

Options
Hello

I need to lay a communications cable between a building and an outbuilding.

To lift and re lay 10 metres of "non-cemented" (compacted onto sand) brick paving plus 10 metres of concrete, I have been quoted over £2000.

It seems a lot to me, but as I have no previous knowledge of this area of work I honestly have no idea if it is fair or not, so would someone please be able to give me advice?

Please note that underground cable is the only option - overhead and wireless are not possible.

Thank you

  • That sounds like job not thought out at all I would certainly not lift ten meters of concrete 10 of brick paving for data there is absolutely no need…. Wireless will work over 20 meters, Firstly get someone in who understands Communications and networking Wireless and hard wired not a builder ?

Even if wireless isn't an option, which is surprising given that's wireless options for pretty much every communications system, there could be a wired solution.

Catenary wire - not as tidy but very low cost.

Is there an above ground route the cable could follow - assuming the comms is extra low voltage, so no electric risk, you could run it in armoured cable to give it more protection and run it along a more exposed route.

    What comms is it carrying?

It wouldn’t matter what coms it is? Although they could run swa data e.g. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Network_Cable_External/index.html on the surface but what would be the point ?

Wireless will work 100% its done in millions of installations just unfortunately OP either doesn’t know how too or has been advised by someone that doesn’t have a clue...
