Hello everyone,
I will be graduating with a degree this June (2008) and am currently applying to go straight into a medical degree (Sept 2008). I was just wondering if I will still be able to apply for student loans and help with paying my fees whilst doing my second degree?
I've googled it but am now thouroughly confused! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde

Are you going to do undergraduate degree in medicine? The NHS might be able to fund you in some way.
My first port of call would be the university website and see if you can glean any info from there. If you are still unsure contact the departmental office and see if they can help you at all.0 -
Thanks The One Who. I haven't quite worked out if I'm going to apply for undergrad or post grad medicine yet - I've got some ringing round to do methinks!
Just had a look at the NHS website and I can apply for a bursary from them, thanks for the adviceTotal abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde0 -
i don't think you can get a student loan for any second undergrad degree, even if it is medicine..... but then medicine students get loans for 6 rather than 3 years so they may have special rules.

give them a call to check what the situation is.:happyhear0 -
I'm also going into graduate entry medicine following my current degree. Medicine is one of the anomalies of the 2nd degree no funding thing, although you will not be entitled to an NHS bursary in your first year, you should still receive fee loan and student loan as per a normal degree. This may vary slightly depending on if you do the 4 year graduate entry programme, or standard 5 years.
Check with your Local Education Authority for the definitive answer, and good luck.

I've just enrolled onto an Optometry course as a second degree. I don't know if medicine have different rules but I haven't been able to get any help to pay tuition fees. In fact I've just had to pay for them on my credit card and it hurt! And no loans or grants of any description either.
When you speak to your LEA it helps to know what questions to ask as they failed to inform me of a number of things.
Will you be studying in Wales? (I assume you're Welsh with that username!)0 -

Not true, though a common misconception.
sali_mali,
Here is an excellent summary of the funding available, depending on which course you are on/ where you are:
