If its stationery she's after and stuff like that, wait till the last few days of August as thats when supermarkets tend to reduce prices heavily on stuff like that

...or another alternative is you to give your DD your stuff and treat yourself with some new stuff ...
Excellent idea - we found most kitchen stuff disappeared/got broken during first year or first move from halls to shared flat anyway and DD replaced most of it from charity shops for pennies.
