Missing hotmail emails

When I opened my inbox today I discovered that all emails for August had been deleted! This is the 2nd time that this has happened since they made their changes. It looks like it's time to get another provider, a reliable one!

Do they have a pruning system built in? I made the change to gmail years ago since the spam filter on Hotmail was cack.

They've certainly made some pruning to my emails! The whole of August! They've made some big changes recently & it's very buggy. Where the *!!! are my emails?!

This is extremely unlikely! How do you get your emails, through a web browser, or an email programme? Any chance you simply didn't receive any emails in August? Are the ones you were expecting in the Spam folder?

Through the browser. It's the 2nd time that this has happened with their recent ongoing changes & bugs. I receive hundreds of emails every day at all hours. I had saved some of the August emails (left them in my inbox). I've just checked again and discovered that they'd been deleted. Deleted items folder is not displaying correctly either.

Options :- change your email address or (I guess preferred):-
1. create a gmail address
2. configure gmail so that you send from gmail as if you were hotmail
3. forward all hotmail to gmail
4. use gmail

I have an Outlook email address (was Hotmail) which I use lightly but I haven't had any problems like you describe.
Do you have a mobile device or another computer than is/was set up for your Hotmail account? It's possible that it can download the messages, then delete them off the server, meaning it would be on one device, and not on the 'server' - the web.
I would also point out that 100s of important emails per day is really outside the use of a free web service.
