Hello Forum members
I have car insurance with Tesco running till February 2017. I would like to sell my existing car before 15 Dec. From mid Dec to late Jan I am on holiday. I plan to start looking for a new car to buy after I come back from holiday. My question is what is the best way for me to approach Tesco which ensures I dont lose my 1 year NCB with them.
Thanks

You might not have much choice but to lose the 1 years bonus but call Tesco and ask the question.0

Or just ask them to reduce the cover to F&T (if they do that)
Poor advice.
You tell us you work in insurance but come out with this dangerously poor advice.
You breach your policy conditions by not notifying them you no longer own the car.
Plus there could be repercussions if the new owner doesn't insure the car and it is involved in an incident whereby liability ends up with the Tesco. Should that happen they will in turn look to the op to reimburse them!0 -
You're right Quentin, that was poor advice. Apologies to the OP here. I don't work in Motor insurance so have no ideas of the RTA laws, perhaps I should have kept my mouth shut!
I do work in insurance, with a decade in Underwriting, DipCii and alot of experience in my market.
I'll stick to commenting on what I know - and I've deleted my poor post!0 -
As above, you have to tell them you've sold the car.
You should definitely call to ask. Don't ask don't get is my motto, but I doubt they'd go for it. It'd be cheaper to just cancel the policy ASAP, and pay the cancellation fee's, and then get new insurance when you get a new car. after all your policy is only half way through.0 -
Cancel the ins when you sell the car. the NCD will be what it will be.0

You won't lose if you buy the new one and transfer. Consider buying before your holiday.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0
