Morning
I need a new laptop, this one's about 7 yrs old, vista. Although it falls over now and then it's generally fine for everyday but new job means I want to keep work stuff separate.
My main criteria is for 15" ish screen, other than that, use will be for docs, email, netsurfing. Real basics. No photos, music, tv etc. As with my other machine (acer) I will keep it pretty clean, everything out on the cloud, external backup etc. Programs only on the c drive. I use libre office for productivity stuff.
I'm sure I can get something reasonable for sub £200, I've seen this and the points also make it attractive too! http://www.tesco.com/direct/lenovo-ideapad-100-156-intel-celeron-4gb-ram-500gb-hdd-black-laptop/782-1376.prd?skuId=782-1376
However I really don't know where to start with the hunt, there seems so much choice. So I need guidance please. And of course, any freebies, tesco etc points and so on sweeten the pill a bit!
Thanks
EJ

Thank you very much indeed. That has helped me come up with something else I didn't realise actually matters to me. I'd rather have a larger keyboard than a separate number pad. Fat fingers!! I use a separate mouse too, same reason.
Thanks again, I hadn't thought of refurbished either, will investigate further. Good to know I can get something decent for under £200 anyway.

I would keep the existing laptop and back up.all important documents. Your problem appears to be really the vista operating system.
If you install Linux Mint 18 cinnamon edition it will run much more smoothly.0 -
It'd be worth checking the resolution of the screen as well; IMHO, a 15" screen should be true 1080p.0

Get yourself a Chromebook instead if you're looking at sub £200 They will be much better all round machines as well.0

Thanks, yes I have come across Chromebooks while looking but again, there's far too much choice and I suppose I feel a bit afeard of the unknown! I'm concerned I might come across something I can't use on it. I like libreoffice and use dropbox, I don't really want to start using something else just to fit with the computer. Well dropbox will be ok used through the browser but what about stuff I might want to keep locally? I'm not sure about it really.
Will investigate further, thanks.0 -

I wouldn't choose a Chromebook. The Lenovo isn't great quality, but I would choose it over a Chromebook any day.0 -
