That is not strictly true - only Austenitic SS is non-magnetic !
And there we were, hoping for certainty....
Anyway, the SS screws I originally wrote about have been checked and they're non-magnetic and phillips head.
I think part of the problem is that they're on the small side. The others, which are magnetic, are beefier.0 -

Stainless steel screws are notoriously soft and snap very easily. The main problem is people either don't drill a pilot hole or they try and use an impact driver to screw them in or out rather than a cordless screwdriver and set the torque setting lower.
I use them regularly on church work when using Iroko or Oak timber and they need using with care.0 -

A smear of grease or Vaseline on the screw is always a good idea. Making it more likely that the screw can be removed if required.0
