I had a dog that loved weak warm tea with milk. He had his tea when I had mine.

That's a good idea too. My Vet suggested the same when my dog wasn't drinking but unfortunately, he didn't like tea :(

I think it's best to buy fresh for them, then at least you know what they're getting.

I didn't even know you could buy frozen chicken breasts.

I don't use them myself but neither would I normally give fresh chicken breasts to the dogs!

No, me neither lol!! At least, not habitually - my dogs aren't all that spoilt, honestly! But for a poorly dog I can and have bought fresh chicken breast from the butcher before now (the dog was terminally ill, bless him, so that was my justification to myself).

Edit: Sorry, OP, I digressed there.

My dogs like weak tea and coffee or very watered down plain yoghurt.
Another possibility if your dog likes fish is to poach cheapest white fish and use that liquid as a drink.

I would avoid any commercial gravy products and bovril as they are very salty (for me, never mind dog!)
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

  • My dog rarely drinks (she'll usually have one drink a day at this time of year but when not summer she can go days, or even weeks, without drinking) so I'm always trying to get extra bits of liquid into her. She never exerts herself enough to pant & just doesn't seem to get thirsty often. She gets only wet food for her meals & I add a splash of water to this which she takes just fine. On hot days I sometimes give her a few treats in a bowl of water which she has to fish out herself as this means she drinks a bit by accident in the process. Fortunately my dog is so food motivated that making water seem as if it's food always works for her.

Thanks . He's doesn't seem to be in pain, and he's expelling urine each day, though he is most days still taking that " on four legs standing like a gun dog " stance while he pees.
I'm going to take him to a vet again before the weekend ( it's not a bank holiday here) as I'm still thinking worse case scenario, and as yet he hasn't had a urine test for crystals so I'm not sure that he's even getting the right treatment( obviously im no vet)
He just refuses to drink water out if a bowl , though I've attempted various things to no avail.
