Ford focus 07 power steering and drive belt problem
Hiya I have a Ford focus 07 plate the power steering pump and pipe went which I had replaced the problem I have is that after using the car a maximum of four times after having this done the drive (aux) belt snapped while I was driving home with my two year old which caused us to get recovery out to bring us back home. Am I right in thinking this should not of happened just a week after having the power steering replaced and that the belt should of also been replaced at this time?

The auxiliary belt wouldn't necessarily be changed at the same time unless you asked for it to be.
It's most likely a coincidence based around the fact the belt and tensioner have been disturbed, and properly retensioning the belt may have precipitated its failure; and/or the belt has been contaminated by leaking power steering fluid.
Aux belt is quick and easy to change.
No, you are not due compo.0 -
The belt is seperate to the power steering and would not be looked at or replaced unless you specifically ask for it to be checked/changed
Did you book this replacement in as part of the repair?0 -
Should have just driven it back with all unnecessary electrics off or until battery goes flat0

Power steering pump and pipe would make me suspect some power steering fluid contaminated the belt and weakened it.
Aux belts are pretty long lived to be honest and I have only seen one or two that have failed, one of those was contaminated with diesel and the other failed when a pulley broke up.0 -
