Tesco Petrol Pricematch policy

I posted this on a different thread, but it was buried deep in that thread and I think now I have written it more people deserve to be able to read it.
Tesco should refund double the difference and reduce the petrol price to match if you find a cheaper source of petrol within 3 miles of the store.
(begin Rant..)
I found myself (on point of principle not because I wanted the 8p refund) having to go to customer service desk, their first reaction was usually to say "oh I don't think we do that anymore"...... (I have learned now to go prepared, first I phone Dundee, and confirm the policy is still in effect, then I ask them to send me a letter confirming such. I show this letter to the CS staff after they try to fob me off.)..........Then I have to go back the next day to ask them why they have not reduced the price on the pumps.
After fighting my local store on this repeatedly over the years they now have agreed to reduce the price within a couple of hours - they used to try the excuse that they only do petrol surveys on a Monday and a Thursday so they could not reduce the price until their next survey. A few threats from me to report them to trading standards has eventually acheived the current status.
They also used to say I had to have a reciept from the other petrol station, NOT TRUE, according to the t&c's of the petrol policy. Then they tried to reduce the price for one day and the day after put the price back up again to the higher price, I had to return and give the trading standards threat again, so they would reduce the price.
They used to say "we increased the price because we anticipate a price rise in the local area". It all came to a head one morning after they yo-yo'd the price for the previous 2 weeks, I was there at 8am demanding they lower the price again, when I asked to speak to the store manager, the junior manager said "He's just come through the door now, I'll discuss this matter with him later" (again a junior manager trying to fob me off and not wanting to look bad infront of his store manager) I wasn't having any of it, I turned around to see a manger walking in thorugh the store entrance, and I waved him over. I gave him a brief recap of the situation, and the junior manager had the audacity to interupt me to say "I did offer to discuss the matter with Mr XX(store mngr)XX there was no need to call him over" I said to him "If you lot wern't so incompetent over the last 2 weeks I wouldn't have to insist on speaking to Mr XX."
Mr XX was extremely good at his job and dealt with me in a very professional manner, he listened to all I had to say. and he would look into it and talk with Head Office - I told him that Head office will tell you that they "anticipate a price rise". I told him, to tell H.O. to stop anticipating, that you have a petrol policy which guarantees to match the lowest price in the area, rising the price before your competitiors is not complying with this policy.....
Later he phoned me to say he agrees with me 100% and he said that he told Head Office that in his store in future, they would not rise the price until the local competitors had risen first.
About 2 years later, it all started again...**ALL OF IT** after a few days of getting nowhere with junior managers I asked for Mr XX again. He said that the policy still stands as he agreed with me before, but his petrol manager had changed recently and that was why the problem had arisen again. He told his new petrol manager how to deal with Head Office when they asked for a petrol price increase, and all was well again.
(Rant over...)
I feel better now and I hope the vigilant among you will do the same because Tesco's is the largest retailer of petrol in the country and if Tesco raises the price in an area then usually the others soon follow.
Other annoying facts about Tesco
*They cancelled their "no quibble" refund policy.

I had this problem in Tesco - but now that I've been intrigued by your perseverance, I'm going back to battle with them again. :j

Well done you for getting there in the end. Mind you, it should take that sort of effort to get what was promised.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
