Halifax asking for employer references

Hi everyone

So as the title says, the Halifax have asked for employer references from us. This is because me and my partner are paid in cash and they need more verification of income other than payslips as the money isn't entering into our accounts. They posted out something for our employers to fill last Fri and we haven't received them yet - I'd imagine we should receive them by tomorrow or Wednesday. After they get the references back they will verify with HMRC I believe and then go ahead with the rest of the application.

My questions are - should I be worried? One side of me is saying I should see this as a positive thing as they probably would have rejected us straight up if they didn't like our application, but then the other side of me is saying they want to do more checks as they aren't convinced we're good enough - eep!

Also, how long do you think it will take from now on? It's already been 13 days since our application has gone in (Halifax requested additional payslips and bank statements last week to further delay things). We are a relatively straightforward case other than the paid in cash issue. We are in a rush to finish things off ASAP as our vendor is moving out of London and starting a new job on the 1st of September and is keen on getting out ASAP! We've been getting a lot of pressure from her to hurry up and tbh we too would like to get this done ASAP. It's so stressful being in this constant unsure state!! :(

Thank you in advance

No, as it's a standard procedure. You are paid in cash so the lender needs to seek reassurance and confirmation.

Couldn't the references be faxed directly to the recipients?

They could then be faxed or emailed back immediately.

Unfortunately our employers both don't have fax machines.

Still nothing in the post from Halifax :(

So we just received the forms today. They've asked us to send a company letter head - I'm confused as to whether this means they just want a blank copy of the letter head or an actual letter stating 'I confirm xxx works here' with the letter head on it? Could anyone clarify? My husband's employer just sent in a blank PDF of the letter head and I'm just fretting they wanted a letter. Just don't want to delay things coz of incorrect docs!:huh::huh:

Is this because they don't have a company stamp? A blank letter alongside the completed reference is fine if so.
    Slummy mummy!

Then that's what they require. Evidence that the employer exists . This can then be cross checked with the HMRC.

Is your employer a sole trader, partnership or Limited Company?

If there is no company stamp to append to the reference form, send a blank letterhead with the reference form instead.

    Contemptuous is quite correct.
