Blackberries

There are a lot of green ones on the bushes round here; Mr LW and I picked a few nice ripe ones when we took Jack for his walk yesterday, but I think a lot of the other local dog walkers do the same thing - I spoke to Sweep's owner, and he said he'd had a lovely lot off the bushes down one end of the linear park. Shame he didn't leave many for us! :rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I went blackberry picking today ready for a jam making binge tomorrow, 30 mins saw me come home with a big bucket full of the beauties.
half I'm going to cook with gooseberries and half with apples, should keep my family happy for a goodly while.
I can never get over it when you see people buying tiny punnets of them in the supermarket when with so little effort you can have them for free.
I made blackberry vodka last year, I don't think my dad has sobered up fully since, it was lethal! part of the problem was that it tasted like posh squash, so far too easy to glug, damson gin I find the same0 -
I've picked 5lbs since 8aug16 from my adjacent south-facing bushes in SE Wales. I should've picked another load today -but there's still yesterday's lot in the fridge awaiting processing. My plan is to bottle them and save for when the apples come in, to make fruit crumbles. Should last us til November.
I costed my pickings at £70 one year :jSave0 -
Never been berry picking. I need to be on the lookout!0

cookiegirl You need to give it a try!
Remember to wear long trousers and long sleeves as blackberries are always surrounded by nettles and thistles:)0 -
and sturdy boots too! I normally do but only wore trainers yesterday and have a rather sore bramble 'rip' across the back of my ankle.
cooked up my haul today, 30 medium sized jars of jam, that should keep my family quiet for a bit0 -

Top tip cookiegirl, never pick berries that are lower down than a dog's hind leg :eek:Gardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
