Voluntary Termination - Default Sums Notice

After returning my car via a voluntary termination I received a default sums notice from RMS Receivables on behalf of Peugeot FS. I've been charged £329 for damage over and above industry fair wear and tear.
The notice says "itemised damage charges". Does this mean I can challenge them? One of the charges is £65 for Full Vehicle Machine Polish.
How long do you have to pay a default sums notice? There is no date on the letter.
Thanks.

Far more info required. What inspection took place when you handed the car over?0

The man who collected the car did an inspection - he was completely stressed out having had to drive up from Leeds, he was 2 hours late and had got stuck Glasgow rush hour M8 traffic. He was in a rush to get away and I didn't have much conversation with him.
I didn't see what he took note of as it was on a gadget of some sort he didn't write anything down on paper although he did say the car was in good condition.
Hindsight now tells me I should have got him to point everything out to me.0 -

Sounds then, like you may accept that the vehicle was not in it's best condition when you returned it.
You could have taken photo's of every panel on the day of collection.
Full machine polish £65 ? Bargain.0 -
Inform the finance house you are not reposnible for the charge.
If they want a proper inspection it should be done at handover, from my experience of a VT and an end of PCP they never are and thats the gamble the finance houses take.
Your argument is that when the car was handed over an inspection was carried out and all appeared in good order.
As there has been some time between handover and the car has been in the poseession of at least one third party you are not liable for any charges.
Let them prove you are, its not for you to prove you aren't.0
